Today 56 students are taking up their part-time MBA studies at ESMT Berlin.

The program is aimed at professionals who want to earn an MBA degree without giving up their jobs. The so-called “blended” learning format with 80 percent online and 20 percent face-to-face sessions offers participants a flexible learning plan. The 37 men and 19 women are on average 32 years old and have nine years of work experience. More than 81 per cent come originally from outside Germany.

The program starts online today, and the first face-to-face class will take place in Berlin in October. The students meet regularly every two months from Thursday evening to Saturday and may choose between Berlin and Munich for the remaining 13 weekend modules. The ESMT Part-time MBA is the first offered in blended format by an internationally accredited business school in Germany.

Nick Barniville, Associate Dean of Degree Programs, said, “While we have been offering custom programs in blended format to executive education clients for several years, the blended MBA program is our first open degree program in this format. Students have the chance to learn essential leadership skills while continuing to work. The approach is “flipped classroom”. Online, students work at their own pace, while the classroom setting allows for discussion with peers and ESMT’s international faculty, as well as network building.”

The ESMT Part-time MBA lasts 24 months and is aimed at participants with at least three years of work experience. Students have access to an innovative online learning platform used collaboratively across the FOME alliance, comprising nine internationally renowned business schools, including Imperial College Business School, the University of Melbourne, Hong Kong University of science and Technology and IE Business School.
